Rick,
Stephen is right with the "fronting issue". I work for an insurance company and a big part of my job is dealing with potentially fraudulent motor claims and policy issues.
It is vital that any information you give on the proposal form or quotes over the telephone are correct. If it comes to making a claim and any material facts have been mis-represented and/or not-disclosed then policy contracts can be avoided and the claim will not be met.
On a different note, just got back from DMUK. Have had a fab time looking round the cars. Many thanks to Dave, Martin and Verity for their kind hospitaltity and technical assistance.

I was 20 when I first had my D, again with my dad as the main policy holder, and myself, named. Costs £450 per year to me. He never drives her, but likes the idea that he could if he wanted to.
Apparently insurance companies are trying to cut down on "Fronting" where one person holds the policy, but in reality the main driver is named. They have a tough job proving it, but if you were to have a crash close to where you live, they may refuse to pay, if this is too far away from where the main policy holder lives. Mind you, they always warn us, life goes on.
Stephen.

Rick,
Depends if you are able to have somone else as the 'main driver' or
if you can just be a named driver. I got insured on my car when I was
21y/o as a 2nd driver, limited mileage 2500 etc.... for about £350
fully comp
But that was with my dad as the main driver and me just a name on the
policy
