Martin,

Yes, the cover I have is the thin shiny one.
Not worth a flip.
I don't remember where I bought it.
I am tired of fooling with these things.
That's why I am thinking of filling it with foam.
The fuel pump rings seem to last only a couple of years before they get
mushy.
The US currently has 20 different blend specs, mandated by law, for
gasoline, so there is no telling what solvents are being added to meet the
vapor pressure and other emission requirements.
States, Counties and cities can pass laws regulating motor fuel specs.
I might have the entire system machined out of Aluminum or CRES.

Is your fuel pump cover one of the thin shiny ones? The ones DMCH sell 
are much better, made of (apprently) the same stuff as the main boot, 
and it thunks down really well, clipping over the boot. The two hoses 
need to be sealed around the top but these covers are much better at 
that. We supply all new hoses that are quite fat and seal really tightly 
in the cover
