Id rather wire a pipe bomb upto my indicators. :^D
But seriously, they do sound crap. I was rather think of something a little more subtle, such as a quiet electronic "Blip - Blop".
There should be some Maplin Gadget out there that would suffice. In fact, im going to have a look now.
