I have just caught up on several posts including your 'short driver' 
comments, with which I fully sympathise!
Check the allignment of the binnacle, having taken mine out a couple 
of times (to replace the bulbs etc) it is very easy to refit without 
getting it seated correctly, casuing it to point down. Just be 
careful not to try and use the screws to force an angle change or you 
risk damaging the fibreglass.
Getting the pitch of the steering wheel is critical, I have found 
that pretty much any comfortable driving position for instrument 
viewing/seating/pedal depression, renders the front of the car 
invisible.
A new product for someone, matching DMC leather covered booster 
cushions?
As for the mirrors, Halfords will cut you wide lens glass, with outer 
zone of convex glass and your choice of normal/anti-glare (blue 
tint). They need a paper template, cut around the glass itself. My 
Golf has exactly the same arrangement, so you should be able to see 
an example in any car park!
My local Halfords store insists on having the glass so that they do 
it in store. I am trying to 'borrow' the glass from a couple of 
sources. I may try a different branch to see if a precut cardboard 
cutout will suffice.

to attach the new glass over the top of the existing mirror.
