All.
My car is making a loud(ish) whine from the fuel pump area. The noise
is more or less constant. I have not let the tank get below half
full, but the acceleration also seems more sluggish than it once was.
Many previous posts here and on the DML have suggested the first
check, and most likely culprit should be the fuel pickup pipe. To
this end I have order a replacement from PJ Grady (or I might try the
coil/spring method).
What I need from the list is the procedure for getting the pipe out,
and back in, in as much detail as possible please.
Do I need to drain all the fuel?

PS With regard to the prototype picture, are there any others,
specifically of the pull straps. I was under the impression that pull
straps were a later addition?
