Good point.  At $400 a fuel pump, I probably wouldn't carry a spare fuel
pump either.

When I converted to a carburetor the price of fuel pumps dropped
significantly for me.  At $50 a fuel pump it just doesn't make sense not to
add a spare fuel pump to my assortment of parts I keep with me when driving
across the country.

Fortunately, I haven't had a single fuel pump failure since I installed the
correct bulb in my battery indicator socket.
