Car cover necessity is very latitude dependent. I'm at the 34th parallel, and the sun does all sorts of damage to unshielded interiors, lenses, etc. Can't imagine how much worse it is in Florida.

At my latitude, the sun will destroy a Budge cover in less than a year -- they literally turn to dust.
