I've got something in between for my D.
Alike Bill I use the 8,5mm MSD spark plug cables.
I use a 40 kV Flamethrower.
The resistor pack is only use half for both start and run.
The gaps are set to 1.2mm (almost an inch).
Combined with an electronic - computer adjustable - CPR the car runs great, smooth and fuel consumption is nice (32 Mi to a US Gallon, long hiway drives) if not speeding over 85 MpH.
Welmoed.
