I respectfully disagree. In its very own sales literature the DMC-12 was marketed as an executive class grand touring roadster, like a BMW, not a slalom racer. As such, excessive steering wheel vibration is a disadvantage not shared with other cars in its class.
I do agree that there are two primary reasons behind engineering for everything on the car, but performance wasn't one of them. The DMC-12 was engineered as quickly and as inexpensively as possible: timetable and cost were the primary motivators.
