The OEM starter seems to be a pretty rugged and long-lived piece. What
really kills them IMHO is if the car was neglected/abused and to get it
going someone cranked the life out of it. Most of the time they simply wear
out. The brushes have a finite life and when they are worn too much the
starter won't work. That is a function of how many hours and the # of
starts. The other thing that kills starters is getting flooded or being run
on a low battery. Low voltage causes higher amperage and that causes heat
and wears the brushes out faster.

It bolts right in and does away with the eyelet connections in favour of
spades.
