It's more about the countless potential pitfalls in the wiring. With a complete professionally made plug-in loom, all the right pre-calibrated sensors, identical injectors and identical pressure regulator, making sure the trigger wheel and cas are accurately mounted... You might have a product. All of the above can be tuned out in the map if you want to go it alone.
The problem is that the benefits are minimal until you start modifying the engine where electronic control over the ignition timing in particular is invaluable, as well as the restriction-free intake.
It's a small market, and everyone who has done it to date has done it as much for the experience as for the result, in my opinion.

Certainly a universal hardware kit (fuel rails, injectors, etc) is possible.
The hangup seems to be fuel maps.
Wonder how new car manufacturers get around that? Ford doesn't spend months & months setting up each vehicle individually.
