[DML] Hooking up a battery Charger

DMLers,

I find myself frequently hooking up a 12-volt battery charger to my DeLorean's battery behind the passenger's seat. 

I remember hearing a while back that you should disconnect the DeLorean's battery from the vehicle wiring harness before charging, using a quick-disconnect screw terminal for example. 

The reason was that leaving the car connected during charging risked damage to the transmission computer on the automatic cars.

Is this accurate, or is my memory fragmented?
