Did I mention I still have my first VCR (a 1983 toploader), and that it still works? I still have my first computer (a Z80 based Northstar), and it still works. I still have the telephone my ex-wife threw it out the front door of her first apartment into the parking lot, complete with scratches, and it still works (Western Electric knew how to build a telephone). Children growing up today have no concept of long term. Their entire world is based upon disposableness, which unfortunately extends to human relationships now as well as nondurable goods. Nobody hands anything down between generations anymore because nothing lasts even until the first baby is born. Your all's loss, not mine.
