You sure don't want to crack it...
Get a standard razor blade and slowly work your way around the base,
keeping it tight to the glass. It's held in place with a very
aggressive double stick tape. If it does not come easily you can hold a
rag around the base and carefully spray (with the red tube) a few drops
of WD40 in at the top of the mount, letting it seep down into the
adhesive. Be careful not to let it drip on the dash or center console.
You should be able to get the mirror off with little trouble.
To re-install, clean the glass thoroughly, again use a razor blade and a
rag with wd40 to get off any residue. Carefully clean off any remaining
WD40 because it will prevent the new tape from sticking.
New mirror and mounting tape are available from your local Delorean
franchise.
You can consider aftermarket mirrors, but if they are heavier than
stock, they need a larger base and a larger piece of mounting tape. On
one of my D's I'm using an aftermarket mirror with automatic dimming,
compass and temperature readout that is much heavier than stock, but the
mounting base has been modified to allow about 5 square inches of
contact with the glass. (Details on request.)
Whatever mirror you choose, make sure to use the 3M VHB mounting tape
the vendors supply, not adhesive or glue.
Easy job if you follow the rules.

How do you remove the rear view mirror from the windshield and how is a
new one installed? What type of adhesive is needed? I don't want to
crack the windshield.
