Hi Dave, Actually Dave what I'm calling a "ribbed aluminum Riv-nut" is exactly that. It has a solid body but ribbed sides that provide more grip. These are stronger than either "jack-nuts" or "well-nuts" which "Mr. G" correctly identifies as such. Jack-nuts have four open ribs quite like, as you said, an expansion nut but are therefore WEAKER than Riv-nuts. Well-nuts are rubber except for the threads and are the weakest of all. Whoever told you that Riv-nuts are not intended for fiberglass must not have been talking to the engineers at DeLorean and Lotus back in the eighties :) You usually get your talking points right so we can just agree to disagree on these small matters! I'll send you a "ribbed Riv-nut" if you want to see what Travis and I are really talking about and then you'll understand they are not the same as Jack-nuts. Mr. G's Enterprises. Sells all kinds of hardware. http://www.mrgusa. <http://www.mrgusa.com/pdfs/63jacknut.pdf> com/pdfs/63jacknut.pdf He will sell one at a time with no minimum quantites. What you are calling "ribbed aluminum riv-nuts are what he calles jack nuts. They work like the expansion anchors you use in sheet rock. Much stronger than riv-nuts, especially in fiberglass and the size of the hole is not as critical. Riv-nuts are really only intended for metal, not fiberglass. Lotus uses them all over, not riv-nuts. The only real problem with riv-nuts AND jack-nuts is that they corrode. Once that happens it starts turning in the fiberglass. Jack-nuts tend to break apart and you can force them out easier than riv-nuts when they corrode. Another interesting thing about jack-nuts is you can get by without a special tool to install them. A bolt and some washers can do it. David Teitelbaum --- In dmcnews@yahoogroups <mailto:dmcnews%40yahoogroups.com> .com, <rob@...> wrote: > > Travis hit the nail on the head!
