[DML] High-pitched whine when going from a stopped position

Hi all -

Intermittently, when I'm in a fully stopped position, depress the clutch all the way and take off in first gear, I hear a high-pitched whine coming from behind me (the engine?).  

The sound lasts only about one second and goes away as soon as the car starts moving.  Again, this only happens sometimes.

Has anyone else run into this?
