Never done that before. Lubing, however, I did. You have a lower and an upper cable. Should lube both to make sure it all goes smoothly. There are various opinions on lubing. Some mention steering box oil (90) or speedo cable grease. I found that using bicycle bearing grease also is soft enough and does not get hard over time. The best way to lube is to take the inner cable out of its cover, put grease on it and in the outer cable (cover) and then move the inner cable in and out until the grease comes out at the other end. Remove excessive grease from the inner cable and assemble and install. Removing the upper cable can be difficult, reason why it's not often done. You may have to dismount the binnacle to get to the connector. As David uses to point out: the angle drive need regular lubing to keep it working properly. Get in there at least twice a year and you probably will have it working for ages.
