You can try jumping the low pressure and high pressure sensors at the accumulator and condensor to see which one lets it turn on. You can replace both for less than $20.
What are the pressure readings on the high and low pressure sides?

Subject: [DML] A/C troubles
Hello all, I'm having an issue where my A/C runs only when it is HOT outside. When it is cool or cold, the A/C won't turn on, the compressor won't even engage. Sometimes in cool weather (60's-ish) the A/C will come on for a second or 2 and then shut right off. The a/c has plenty of charge in it, I'm just wondering which electrical part or A/C component will fix this once replaced. I need to discharge the system soon anyway in order to change an O-ring on the condenser lower fitting, so I'd like to fix whatever else is causing this issue at the same time. Thank you for your time and advice in advance, Dani B #5003.
