Correct. If the current bid on an item is $5, and you put in a bid of
$10,000 - your bid will fist show up as $5.50, and then automatically
escalate as others push it higher. Bids less than $10k by others will
not show up, the high bidders bid history will just continue to go up.

Bidders can submit a max amount their willing to spend. Only the high
bid is shown so if
someone bids over the current bid and the max for the first bidder is
higher it will then be
the next bid shown even though it's still the first bidder. It makes it
appear the bidder
over bid himself but that isn't the case.
