Exactly. Pictures surfaced on the internet some years ago of the dies
being attached to fish nets and being tossed overboard. Absolutely
everything from the DeLorean factory was sold via auction in 1983, and
I would guess that's how the die's fate were sealed. We've gotta
remember, it took many years after that even for the remaining
DeLoreans to be sold... with this glut of the pariah cars, why on
earth would anyone want to invest in the dies to build more of them?

I have always read that the tools were simply sold as "scrap metal",
and the company that eventually ended up with them bought them to use
to anchor fishing nets.
BTW, if they are in the "deepest part of the ocean off the British
coast", then that area of the ocean is not that deep!!
