All, While there are limitations for tow dolly towing on some tollways, a trailer does not make the transport perfect. I highly recommend you check your route before using a car trailer as well, since there are limitations with trailers, especially for certain bridges and tunnels around the NY area (mostly bridge and tunnel restrictions for trailers). While many of the trailer limitations are tied to the use of trucks (for towing), it can also be a problem when the tow vehicle is an SUV or a full-size car. I am sure Rob Grady can vouch for the hassles in and out of Long Island. I do recommend trailer use, but check your route in advance so you can limit the number of surprizes during transport.
