Mike, Every time you push down on the metering plate with out using the throttle spindle you are throwing a lot of gas in and not the right amount of air mixed with it. I would not do that or you're going to ruin the 02 sensor if it isn't already and it's going to get black or blacker. It will also blacken the plugs called gas foul. Counter clock leans the mixture, but the engine needs to be hot and the 02 unplugged. Then plug the 02 back in after adjusting and go drive the car 5 to 10 miles to try to burn off the black soot if it will or you will never adjust the seeking properly. Before I do that, I thought I'd let you know what I found today and see if maybe I should do something else. I pulled the O2 sensor and when it was installed two days ago it was fairly clean. Today it was BLACK and total run time on the engine was approx. 30 minutes since I installed it. I decided to pull a plug and see how it looked. The plug was brand new when I installed it a couple weeks ago. Today it was totally BLACK, which to me indicates the mixture is running way too rich. Also, I checked the timing and it was off 5 degrees, it was set at 8 degrees vice 13 the manual calls for. I'm going to set the timing tomorrow, but, should I not go the opposite way (CCW) with the mixture screw, so as to add more air to the amount of fuel going in, kind of like what was happening when I manually pushed down on the air flap while feeding in throttle?? Remember, like Elvis, I'm and MG guy and this is my first fuel injection, so everything is new in this area. Also, I pulled a sample from the coolant system and found no oil in it. I also found no coolant in the oil system, so I went ahead and flushed the system again. I still have a bit of foaming, but not as bad as before. After I solve this mixture problem, I'll flush the system again and see if that gets rid of the foaming. The idle speed microswitch is working as advertised and I am pulling 20 inches of vacuum.
