If it looks like sandy coloured stuff you may have a blown cylinder
head gasket and oil leaking into the water or vice versa.

last couple days checking one item at a time, firing up the car,
checking the symptoms, shutting it down and waiting for it to cool
down in this 100+ weather we've been having every day, then checking
another item.

but a special thanks to John Hervey and his persistence. He kept
pinging me to replace the WUR and after my third one, I am able to
get full throttle. Also, timnagin (Greg), from another forum, forced
me to look at something I had never even touched or even looked at,
the idle speed screw. The PO Arsehole had screwed with this and
never replaced the plug. The idiot stuck a piece of kitchen sponge
in there to keep out any dirt or moisture and air just sucked right
through, but at the casual glance it looked like the hole was plugged.

bit (100-200 rpm), but I can get full throttle with minimum
backfiring. After it warms up to operating temp, I get full
throttle, no backfiring, but the idle is hunting from almost stall to
1000 rpm. I disconnected the idle speed switch and rpm goes to 1500
rpm and is rock solid. I have not driven it yet to put a load on it
since the A/C is down and last night's low was 82 degrees.

that will will help the idle hunting. Any other ideas?

crud and old coolant. Took a couple hours, but everything was
running clear when I finished. I then filled the system with just
plain water, cause I figured I'd probably have to work on this system
again. This morning, I fired it up and while I was waiting for it to
get up to temp, I checked inside the reservoir bottle. I have a
white foam in there that looks like soap suds. The water level is
good, fans came one at the correct temperature, and it cooled down
appropriately. Any ideas on what is causing the foaming?
