Yes and no. The problem is most likely caused by heat coming off the radiator fans. Purchasing your favorite vendor's heatshield, which mounts to the front frame extension behind the fans, should fix this problem. The noise you are hearing is indeed the fuel pump, but it usually isn't going bad itself. What's happening is the rubber pick-up hose underneath it is collapsing because of the high temperature of the gasoline. This strains the pump, because it has to work harder, so theoretically it can prematurely wear out your pump, but usually this doesn't happen for awhile. I've had Dave Bauerle's heatshield on my car for about 8 years now, and I've never had a fuel pump issue since. Houston and Grady also sell a new pick-up hose that isn't as prone to collapsing, from what I understand. I made it home, and noticed that my fuel pump was "Whining/buzzing/humming" quite a bit. I have never heard this before. Is this the overheating problem? Do I need a new fuel pump? What kind of lifespan should I expect? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
