Nonsense. >From 1980 forward, every single car manufactured by AMC was made completely of galvanized sheet metal (galvanized at the mill, before being received by AMC in giant rolls). From the top of the roof to the bottom of the rocker panels, stamped welded or otherwise, the entire body was 100% galvanized. Welds weren't the problem -- paint was. AMC had to develop special primer to make the paint stick (which works excellently: My 1981 AMC has never had a single adhesion issue -- compare that to DeLorean epoxy). AMC also Zeibarted inside the rocker panels, doors, and other hidey holes. And added plastic wheel well liners. Had JZD gone to AMC for development help, our cars probably wouldn't have any sort of frame at all (AMC was the undisputed domestic champion of unit body construction). Wonder what the boys in Kenosha could have done with ERM....
