Dave,
This is alike the eyebrows at the front.
Plastic tends to behave that way under heat or pressure (hanging on
it while servicing the engine?).
I've read somewhere that it's repairable in about the same way as the
eyebrows.
Need to take the rear facia of to make the changes, though.
