By US emission law, Lambda is quite necessary.
Otherwise, I'd argue that it's basically an impediment (note that
European PRV's didn't use it). Lambda was developed to comply with US
emissions. Only vehicles exported here were so equipped.
Euro spec fuel distributors have no provision for external regulation
of the lower chambers. Could that be why their idle speeds don't yo-yo
up & down?
Does the Stage II exhaust even have a bung for an O2 sensor? If not,
Lambda is totally meaningless.
