Stagflation of the late 1970's, followed by the quite severe recession
of 1981, dealt a death blow to DMC as well. Oil Crisis #2 that
preceded them rubbed more salt in the wounds. People seem to have
forgotten how trying the turn of the 80's were (although I did enjoy
having a bank CD that earned 18% interest).
Had JZD made a go of it in an economic environment similar to 10 years
earlier or 10 years later, things might have turned out very
differently. Economics may be dull, but they are a limiting factor.
