I did this many years ago - 3 tail light bulbs on each side make quite a difference at night. Basically I just used the circuit board as a holder and put the 1157 sockets in place of the OEM sockets and wired the sockets around the board. I left the other three OEM sockets in place (modified for better connection). So far it hasn't given me any problems.
