That's exactly what I did, I tapped into the 12 volts behind the console and installed an extra cigarett lighter plug
under the dash above my right knee.
I run the cord around the binnacle, down the knee pad and under the dash and plug it in there.
The GPS is a Garmin StreetPilot 2610 on a bean bag mount.
