The original angle drives have plastic gears? Maybe the plastic has a certain amount of flexibility and prevent jams. The metal gears of the new drives jumble up and jam and lock up....strong enough to snap the cable. All of the failed drives I have, you can spin them forward, but it reverse they lock up. I have not disected one of these and had a look inside yet, but what ever is supposed to keep them aligned is not holding up. -vb To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx: jtrealty@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx: Thu, 22 Nov 2007 01:32:39 +0000Subject: [DML] Re: WANTED: Angle Drive Someone explain how some cars still are running with the origionalangle drive with the plastic gears and others (a small numberpresumably) go through 4 angle drives with metal gears. There has tobe something wrong with the cars that can chew up the metal gears. Itwould be interesting to pull the speedometer heads on those cars andpossibly find parts jamming the works. Either that or some otherproblem like a cable that is too long, a missing lower support, etc.Bulletproofing the angle drive is only covering up the basic problemIMHO. An interesting point, on the cars that destroy the origionalplastic gears the same cars are also capable of destroying the metalgears. Why is that when other cars can live with the plastic gears?David Teitelbaumvin 10757--- [long quote trimmed by moderator] To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews Yahoo!
