[DML] access to mixture adjustment question

What's the most appropriate way to get the access plug out of the air
mixture unit (venturi?) in order to gain access to the hex screw to
adjust the mixture. I did this once before with a drill and it came
out very messy. Can the plug be hammered out? Can it be removed with
the unit installed on the car or does it have to come out?
