I was comparing it to the 5-speed. The 5-speed is quicker for a couple
of reasons. The ratios, the ability to "dump" the clutch, the control
over the shifting and the lack of the torque convertor so there is no
slippage. The "improvements" I have done include the P J Grady cooler,
the heat-shrink tubing on the shift cable, heavier springs in the
clutch packs, and the "mod" to the shift computer. I also have a
rebuilt torque convertor with a brass thrust washer instead of the
origional plastic one. Most of this only will add to the reliabitity
and longevity, the harder springs give me firmer shifts, kind of like
a "shift kit". The BIGGEST improvement that can be made is good
old-fashioned preventive maintaince. Check the fluid level and
condition often and replace it regularly. Do all of the external
on-car adjustments.
Tell us what improvements you have done.
