[DML] Re: Auto Trans (WAS: stage II)

The "add-on" cooler PJ Grady sells is just some aluminum fins to
increase the surface area on the outside of the oil-to-water cooler
for some increased air transfer. Not much but it IS something. My
point was that if you push more power through the automatic
transmission (either by turbos or a Stage II) then you should upgrade
the cooling on the automatic transmission to reject the additional
heat that WILL be generated (mostly by the torque convertor). Harold
is probably correct that it would be better to add the heat exchanger
as close to the transmission as practical, my concern is only that you
may not get enough air in the back. It may take some fancy ductwork to
get it right. Synthetic will take more heat, I do not know how it will
work with the friction discs in the transmission. Generally when you
switch from a mineral based lubricant to a synthetic you can expect
the unit to leak so it is not recommended.
