[DML] Re: EFI? Megasquirt?

As I follow the EFI conversion threads on places such as DMCTalk, I am
struck by how long they take. The final installation is of course very
nice, but it doesn't exactly jump into the engine compartment.

Would you consider running another metering system while the EFI bugs
are worked out? Carburetion has its own limitations and peculiarities,
but it is extremely quick to install (mine was done in a couple of
evenings and one Saturday). Jeff Friday had some suitable intake
manifolds welded up, and I just received word that an owner in New
York made one too (see the DMA Summer Fun Run scrapbook). All you need
is a vacuum tight intake manifold, some bolts to plug the injector
boots, some method to cut down fuel pressure (I substituted a low PSI
pump in the stock boot, but a regulator might work better in your
case), and of course a carburetor of your choice. A carbureted intake
manifold can be removed from the engine in less than 5 minutes, with
the carb still attached, so you could quickly switch back & forth
between it and the EFI manifold during the debugging process. Would at
least leave you with a 100% roadable vehicle in the interim. Once you
had the EFI up & running I'm sure you could find a ready buyer for the
manifold & carb.

Just a thought.
