Mike, Two ways to check out a fuel pump, without removing it. First, disconnect the two wires on top of the pump. Connect an ohmmeter across the two terminals the wires were connected to. You should get a reading of small resistance (1-10 ohms). If you don't have an ohmmeter, connect a spare battery (lawnmower battery works great) across the terminals. If it spins or tries to spin, the pump is good, but it may have ingested some debris from the tank. If it tries to spin, reverse the leads and see if it will run backwards (no more than 1-2 seconds). This will sometimes dislodge the crap, but that just means you'll suck it back in, eventually, so you might as well go ahead and clean the tank at this point. If neither of these options work, then the pump is probably kaput. Contact me off line if you have any questions.
