You can remove the wheel and look at the rotor.  On top of the rotor is a scissors-looking thing that closes over the rotor when the parking brake is engaged.  The thick cable that comes off of the 'scissors' is the parking brake cable.  Perhaps you can see the problem once you know which parts are for the parking brake and which parts are for the normal brake.  The normal brake pads are on the trailing side of the rotor.

I must admit I do not know where the parking break is physically located.
Over time I have picked up that the parking break does not use the pads on
the wheel though.

The noise is definitely coming from the driver's side rear caliper.
