Just to clarify: Elvis, the idle microswitch might be activated at idle
but has nothing to do with the idlespeed system. All it does is activate
the vacuum advance as soon as you come off "idle". The idle races due to
over-advance on the ignition if the switch isn't pressed.
It sounds to me as though the infamous "brass screws" have been twiddled
to let the engine idle correctly when cold, and it speeds up as it warms
up, which is to be expected.
Bill:
Are your brass screws seated all the way in?
With the ignition on, engine off, does the idlespeed motor (black thing
with black plug on the left of the engine) hum?
The only problems I've seen related to the idlespeed thermistor are when
it becomes unplugged or has a poor connection - this makes the idle race
to 2000rpm so I doubt it's the problem. It sounds to me more like a
stuck idlespeed motor (you can usually resurrect them with some
penetrating oil, and a bit of enthusiastic cleaning) or an electrical
problem on the idlespeed governor. I've seen a fairly consistent rate of
governor failures.
To answer your Q directly, yes the thermistor is across 9 and 11
