A quick way to tell if you need a torsion bar adjustment is exactly as
Dave S pointed out. Take the strut off and if the door hangs open
between 2-6 inches you probably don't need a torsion bar adjustment.
Since you say your door closes all the way without the strut and with
a new strut it hangs, you are probably in need of a torsion bar
adjustment. This is something that should be attempted only by someone
who has some experience at doing this. BTW before you try to remove a
strut be sure to FIRST remove the clip that slides inside the ball
end. I try to adjust the torsion bars so that on a 70 degree day the
door doesn't bounce on opening and when I push it all the way up it
stays fully open. The struts are very temperature dependant. The
torsion bars are not. Boyles Law.
