That's interesting, because my arrangement is quite similar but I had the
cable jump track. The only real difference is that I made a bracket that
sits on top of the thermostat housing instead of the rear of the engine
compartment.
I'll probably combine Marty's trick along with removing the pedal return
spring. That should be sufficient to prevent future problems.

Oh, and Marty it wasn't actually "new in box" anymore - I've spent the last
8 years installing the kit piece by piece. For a variety of reasons I just
never got around to doing it all at once. I was kind of sad to install the
last pieces this summer... it had become a long-running joke amongst me and
my friends :)
