Very interesting news.
Several years ago when Carl Tilley had announced his invention the
"perpetual electrical device" which was installed into his DeLorean I
was very curious so I had attended the event. It was held in
Nashville Speedway, Tennessee. Bruce Battles, another DMLer who live
locally was in attendance with his DeLorean towed to the event. (Hi
Bruce.)
About Carl Tilley?s vehicle? I personally think he did a neat and
clean job cosmetically in converting his DeLorean with the electrical
power plant and all of the other necessary devices including the
installation of all of the dozen batteries through out the car. The
car did run and had ran well that morning, now as far as his
perpetual device working as he claims??? Read on.
For what I?ve witnessed, Tilley's DeLorean was unique in several
areas. For one, the car on a stand still, took off faster then the
stock PVR DeLoreans. Second, which was most impressive, it was
totally quite! No mechanical or components noise at all. All you
can hear is one click of the toggle switch to power it on and that is
it. There is no fan noise, no belt noise, no alternator noise, no
buzzing and etc. Upon take off, there is no acceleration noise. It
just took off with no lag! You do hear more noise coming from the
tires rolling over the gravel pavement. It also was eerie to see the
vehicle traveling at 90MPH plus with no engine or exhaust noise! It
was dead silent and if anything, I believe all I heard was the
electric power plant's low hum when it zoomed by, or was it the rear
wheel bearing? You can see it coming, but there is no noise, no
sound at all! What you do hear if you listen carefully is the sound
of the wind noise generated by vehicle moving and cutting through the
air. There is no heat generated from the vehicle, so the vehicle was
cool physically and figuratively speaking. I believe many of you
would respect his vehicle, once you see it on the move, although many
of you dislike the fact that Carl Tilley may have made a mockery of
the DeLorean and the marque using his invention.
On the test track that day, his car did several fast performance laps
around the track as to impress the audience and there was a press
conference for the press, his investors and the many invited guess
including myself. There was a rumor that there was a representative
from Detroit from one of the ?big three? to see his invention or
contraption as many had expressed it to be. All the people were
allowed to inspect the vehicle, but they were not allow to see the
"perpetual device" which was hidden...... hummmmm? Anyway, I had
asked Mr. Carl Tilley openly with the press listening, that I would
have gladly to test drive his vehicle back to NYC and all he did was
chuckled, looked downwards towards the ground and avoided in giving
me an answer. (Hey, I would have converted my DeLorean if I can get
200 miles on one charge even if his device is nonsense and "full of
crap.")
Right after the press conference, Tilley again, did allow another
smaller group of people to test-drive the electric DeLorean. What
was strange was that the electric DeLorean had developed a bad rear
wheel bearing. I said strange because, for all those laps generated,
it was beginning to equal to the approximately the time for the
batteries to expire. Everyone was anxiously expecting the vehicle to
die out, including myself for his device can?t really work?
Or did Carl Tilley conveniently planned it as many believed, for
there was no noise coming from the bearing nor did the bearing
collapsed? So, out of the blue, he announced that his DeLorean was
crippled and the DeLorean cannot be driven any farther. Carl Tilley
immediately stopped the whole event and he then had his electric
DeLorean was place on a flat bed and quickly hauled back to his
"shop" away from the crowd with no further inspections or interviews
to be given to the press or to the public, only saying that he will
?repair the rear bearing? and ?schedule another run in the
future.? (I am still waiting.) The crux of the matter is, he could
have changed the bearing in under two hours, if he wanted it to as to
prove the worthiness of his claim.
BTW, the event that day lasted from 8AM to about 10:30AM, for it was
expected to have been an all day event. So off, I went to do some
sight seeing locally of the many nice houses and places of the famous
country singers living in that area of Nashville. I later had dinner
and waited after midnight and headed back to NYC. Alone on the drive
home that night, I was pondering what it would have been like, as to
be driving a smooth noiseless and vibration less electric DeLorean?
Despite that his device is questionable, the fact that his electrical
DeLorean had given the "gull wing stainless steel car" another modern
unique feature to brag about -- Electrically powered.
Hey, has anyone on the list toyed with idea of a electrical power or
a hybrid DeLorean? Gas in Manhattan, NYC is $3.45 per gallon for
87 octane, with the price of gas maybe this is the way to go?

The two questions that should be raised is that if his electric
device real then it would the next greatest
