Re: [DML] New Owner 8:00 2/8/06 Vin #d000764

this is straightforward if you are methodical. a good running engine
starts with clean fuel and a good spark (ignoring timing for now!)

To re-commission the fuel system
Remove fuel pump, boot, support bracket, and all pipes and baffle
inside tank.
Clean out gue in tank with rags.
Use acetone to remove remainder. Ensure completely clean.
Replace pump, boot, probably bracket, pipes. (specialTauto sell an
update kit)
Replace fuel filter near to rear driver side wheel, bottom of frame.
Check/replace fuel lines from pump to hard fuel line (do not kink
hard fuel line).
Put return feed line into a glass jar or petrol container.

Remove fuel feed line from filter output and put into petrol
container
Airtight cover the holes in the fuel tank (ie from the fuel sender)
and put a gallon in.
Run fuel pump and you should get muddy looking fuel in your jars.
Run until clean.
Consider replacing the fuel accumulator before all of this (a nasty
job under middle of car but 10 times safer without any petrol in)

Then put fuel line back on fuel distributor, remove 6 injector
pipes, make up six new pipes with banjo ends and put thes into jars.
Run fuel pump. You should get petrol out of the six pipes.

Then vacuum area around injectors (tape a drinking straw onto a
vacuum cleaner)
Once free of debris, remove injectors (just one clip holds them in)
Put the injector pipes back onto distributor and put the injectors
into glass jars.
Run pump and push down fuel metering flap (big circular plate
obvious when you remove air filter)
You should get fuel squirting in a good pattern from the injectors
If you don't, injectors could be no good or system is not reaching
running pressure.
Once squirting ok, put back in engine.
Then I would clean the connections from to and from ignition coil,
clean any earth points on the engine.
Put a good battery on and try to start.

Always have a couple of fire extinguishers handy and work on fuel
system outside.
Petrol vapours can ignite from yards away.

To run the fuel pump, remove the rpm relay and jump the connector
(see specialTauto site for diagram).
Obviously all this is at your risk and if unsure always take to a
specialist

After all this expect to work on: brake callipers..all six, clutch
master and slave cylinders, brake cyclinder, steering column bush
(is the wheel wobbly? Cheapo to fix)

Hope all this helps and email with any questions,.

Regards

Steve
