I just replaced one of mine so yeah they're called support buffers. 
The original one had come partially unglued and was the subject of
regular beatings by the sunshade.  The new ones will require some
adhesive at least at the top but I'd recommend gluing it all the way
down to prevent warping.  My vice grips were busy at the time so I
taped mine in place to dry. Gotta love stainless.
