Unless the previous owner did something weird (glued/welded it on?),
it just screws off. This is a 5 speed, right?
Grab the leather and pull it down a bit, it should expose a pair of
nuts just below the shift knob. Loosen the lower nut (move it further
away from the shift knob), then the upper if you can get a wrench on
it. The shift knob should then spin off freely.
