Hello.
On really old struts exposed to the weather, it's also possible for the
clip to break in two during the removal attempt, leaving the strut
socket locked on the ball end by the little straight piece of the
clip. If this happens, a minimally destructive method is to cut the
strut socket in half with a handheld rotary cutting wheel. It's
timeconsuming but gentle. I wouldn't whack the strut with anything
harder than my hand. The lower mount point isn't terribly strong.
