custom tips and tricks and the people behind them

Hey everyone,
I wanted to post about the new ideas and custom tips that have been
going on in the community. I've done a fair amount on my car but not
without help. I've talked with many people since Memphis and I wanted to
let you know we've got a lot of great people with innovative ideas out
there.
Ryan Gould of www.d-a-r-t.com fame is coming to Arizona. He'll have
his shop up and running sometime in the first quarter of 2003. We're lucky
to have him out here as he knows the PRV inside and out and has a lot of new
ideas and fabrication skills. His new exhaust system sounds fantastic and I
hear his car is almost as fast as mine....:) On a side note, Ryan fitted
265/50 15's to his D and they really look nice in the back. No rubbing, no
clearance problems, and the footprint really looks nice.
Ron Wester has also been a big help to me. Some things I saw on
Yellow piqued my interest and I emailed him about it. He was very
forthcoming with what he did and how he did it and even supplied part
numbers. I really appreciated that. Many people do something really trick
or innovative and are afraid you'll copy it so they won't tell you
specifics. Ron's the opposite. He sent me pictures and descriptions of
what he did and how he did it. Thanks!
Ken Koncelik has been helping with my taillights and graining and
dent repair. Ken's one of those "watch me do it" kind of guys and my car
always looks better after he's been at it.
Jim Reeve really knows the relay compartment inside and out. He
installed my trick LCD remote controller for my car's systems in a few hours
without cutting anything. In fact, I could remove the entire system in a
matter of minutes and you would never know it had been in there.
I worked with Evil Dan very closely on my wheels after he did his
and they turned out to be a perfect fit. I have over 5,000 miles on my car
and have had no issues with the wheel/tire setup. Dan came over to measure
the wheel hub diameter and made numerous calls to Rob Grady on his own time
to get hub specifics and my spacers taper perfectly.
Rob Grady himself did my digital dash install and I encourage anyone
who wants one to go to Rob. It looks like a factory install and according
to Rob I could go back to the stock gauges at any time and it would take me
about 2 hours to do it.
Customizing a D takes balls because you're alone in what you do and
you alone have to support the modifications. Now we have a small community
that appears to be growing and we are supporting each other . It's nice to
have a home....:) I am just learning the intracacies of the D and I'm not
much of a mechanic. Had I wanted to do all of this myself my car would
still be in pieces and you probably would have seen a few hundred posts from
me by now. I never would have made it to Memphis. It is because of people
like this in our community that so many cars are on the road and reflect the
owner's personality. My hat's off to you guys and my sincere thanks!
