There is plenty of different places mentioned as to where the dies currently
reside, but I believe the actual location is just off Kilciaran harbour in
south Connemara. I went there a few years ago and saw the circular lobster
nets that they are supposed to be weighting down. I took a few shots at the
time. They aren't too far off the coast, maybe two hundred yards.

Oh, I forgot to say why I thought it was the motor mount. The car
just had a $12,000 engine rebuild @ Delorean one less that 100 miles
ago with a few other things as well "I looked at the invoice and
thought for a second it was from Ferrari of Beverly Hills." They
remachined everything and went over the whole engine pretty much but
get this..... only one of the two motor mounts is new. I guess
mistakes happen in the garage and that's understandable but just
thought both would be replaced go figure. Back to the transmission,
thank you very much David. I will look at the first thing as it's a
major concern for me and I appreciate the help. While on the subject
of the shifter gate what's easiest way to get access to is? Just
remove the screw and pull up or do I need to take the whole console
out of the car?

I have read a bunch of conflicting statistics for the DeLoreans gas mileage
what is the usual gas consumption rate?It cant be any worse than the ford
fairmont I owned once,it really sucked gas like a tank it was an inline 6cyl
carbeurated.I am probably going to drive my D around alot so I need to know
how much its gonna cost to feed the beast.

Now is the new adapter cup metal or plastic?
The speedometer angle drive has been striped and will need
replacing. But I cant see how I can got the old one out, is it a big

To the person who quoted a lengthy story on why Rockstar / DMA won't have
a DeLorean in the upcoming game "Grand Theft Auto - Vice City", as
I expected and pointed out previously in a deleted - you were
wrong. The latest book-guide about the aforementioned game clearly
displays a DeLorean look-alike called the "Deluxo" much like all the other
imitation 80s cars with non-trademarked names.
Curious why a long fabrication from this list attempted to claim
otherwise, with tales of "dialogue between DMC Houston and Rockstar". I
severly doubt Rockstar even knows this list - or DMC Houston even exists.
Sorry to go "video game" on this point, but the previously posted -
incorrect "rumor" has migrated into other newslists verbatem from this
place so I wanted to clarify the "rumor" in advance of others.

Hey all,
two questions:
1. i want to refinish my muffler. it looks like it is rusty even though it
really isn't since it's stainless.... i don't need it to look like chrome, i
just want it to look like it is new again. is a muffler best painted, or is
there a polishing job that can be done? i'd obviously bring this to a
specialist.
2. i'm interested in the catalytic converter straightpipe since i live in a
state without emissions testing. it would be ideal to do this job when i
refinish the muffler. is this a very difficult job? are the bolts
typically
quite rusty and solid? also - are there any downsides to removing the cat
besides higher hydrocarbon emissions?
any thoughts are welcome!

Last I knew Island did not have a website, but I haven't followed them
closely lately.
As far as intercooling, no, there's no fundamental problem with it. The
Legend turbo setup had twin intercoolers. There is plenty of air
available by putting airscoops on the side engine compartment vents (even
without scoops there may be enough air). Another option would be an
air-to-water intercooler with the radiator located with the main radiator
in the front or in some place where there is lots of air available.
The Island turbo kit does not run enough boost to need intercoolers, which
are usually only needed above 7 or 8 PSI. But a turbo kit aiming for more
power should have them.

I've experienced around 18-20 mpg, but it varies greatly based on my driving
habits. Lately it's all been city mileage and I allow the car to warm up
for a bit. I used to be concerned with fuel mileage with the car since my
last vehicle was an Acura 4 cylinder, but the more I drove the car, the less
I cared about gas money. The sheer pleasure of driving this beautifull
machine makes it all worth it.

I had the same problem. Check that the rubber surround for the handbrake is
flush at the point where the release button meets the rubber. If not
wriggle the rubber sleave surround up towards the button. This will allow
the handbrake to drop just that little bit more to allow the light to go
out.
The carpet pouch should be pushed down too as it tends to work its way up
quite a bit.

I can tell you what my one likes for breakfast.
Between 9.5 and 10.5 Liters for 100km driven normaly to work and in the
usual traffic (countryside). That's about 6.2 miles per Liter or 23.5 miles
per gallon. On the autobahn with 120mph it needs about 13 Liters, still
acceptable if not everyday.
Not too bad, people here in germany always think it needs twice as much
because it is an american car...
...but it has an european motor ;-)

If you have a look at this article I wrote about exhaust gaskets I went into
some detail
on removing the exhaust. Taking the cat out is quite difficult because you
have to remove
the crossover pipe from the manifolds in order to access the upper right cat
mounting
nut.

As to refinishing the silencer, over here you can buy high temperature paint
in a silver
shade - I did my heat stove with it till I decided to leave it out anyway...
I can't
vouch for its lifespan though. I believe there's a ceramic coating process

I get around the same milage [18 - 20]. I havn't noticed a great
amount of difference with better octane fuels, but I have noticed
performance increased with 94 octane. The best thing to remember is
the DeLorean is not a sports car, and as long as you do not hog the
engine you'll get good milage, as you would on any car that isn't being
ragged when driven.

Okay I just got to put my 2 cents in here. Does anyone
feel really saddened by the idea that the original
dies to the DeLorean are sitting on the bottom of the
stupid ocean holding fish nests from drifting away?
And on that same token we know just about where they
are? I mean this has got to be one of the worst uses
for such priceless molds. Now I understand that they
have been down there for close to 18+ years. Would it
not be interesting to have an expierenced diver go
down and examine the molds? take pictures and what not
and then possibly raise these molds from there watery
grave? Expensive endever I know. But would it not be
worthwhile to everyone who owns a DeLorean to donate a
few dollars to a fund to reclaim these molds and get
them back to DMC where they belong? This is of course
assuming that they are still in a usable condtion. Can
you imagine with these molds present once again they
could begin to stamp new fenders and doors, ending the
shortage of exterior parts. It just seems to me it is
a very very big waste. I like crabs as much as the
next guy, but let the crabs find new paper weights.

Mine was like that too when I first bought mine. I found the problem to be
some fabric was getting in the way of the lever, so i just trimmed some
fabric off and it works fine now. Check to see if anything is blocking the
lever from going down all the way.
