I would disagree on the cost front - it's no longer true that you get hit by a large tax
bill when importing to the UK - the costs I paid are as follows:
$1250 shipping (including in-land transportation)
5% of purchase price and shipping cost in tax to HM C&E
£130 ish in port charges/paperwork etc.
£70 registration fee
£72 for a new pair of headlights
