The plug mentioned as the dummy plug for the non-used speedo drive is on the side of the transmission - I think on the passenger side of the car. He mentioned his problem as being a "cap" on the end of the trans, I'm assuming on the end of the trans that faces the front of the car (in the DMC). I've heard of one of the 5-th gear retaining nuts backing off (they are normally staked in place, i.e. the center of the nut is dimpled against the flat on the mainshaft to keep it from unscrewing) and drilling thru the rear housing.
