Thanks for the idea!
actually DMCJoe helped me on this one. we found out that the accelerator 
cable plastic sleeve had slipped out of a fitting right in front of the 
throttle spool, so the cable was hanging up about a half centimeter from the 
end of it, so my spool wasn't unwinding enough to trip the idle microswitch!  
i pushed the sleeve back into the fitting and all is fine now!
